Lethbridge Volunteer Opportunities

Welcome to Leftovers! Our Rescue Food volunteers transport unsellable but still edible food from donors directly to service agencies. Rescuing food can be as convenient as stopping off at a local business on your way home. Or challenge yourself to learn more about the city you live in with a route that’s out of your normal area! Either way, you’re getting good food to the people who need it most.
Sign up in the Food Rescue app and select your city to see what opportunities are currently available. Then choose the opportunity with the time, date, and location(s) that work best for you, and you’re ready to prevent good food from being wasted!

Special Events Assistants provide support during busy festivals and offsite events in an effort to raise awareness about the Nature Centre’s programs and services.
Supporting the mission and vision, the Special Event Assistant represents the Nature Centre in the community by helping acting as an ambassador at events like Canada Day at Henderson Lake, Lethbridge Children’s Expo, Spring Nature Fest, Discovery Days, Nature Play Fest, among many others.
Location: Special Events take place at the Nature Centre and at various locations throughout the City of Lethbridge.

Program Assistants work closely with Nature Centre staff to deliver compelling, interactive, and memorable programs. Supporting the mission and vision, the Program Assistant represents the Nature Centre in the community by helping Program Leaders in such programs as: Big Bird Little Bird, Junior Naturalists/Trail Blazers, Extreme by Nature, and Day Camps.

Quick info about the program:
- Provides a free daily lunch for high school students.
- In partnership with local businesses and food banks, youth receive scheduled hot meals, or grab and go lunches to take back to school.
What a typical lunch program looks like:
- Volunteers arrive at the scheduled prep time (this can vary depending on the day as some meals are provided by local restaurants, and some meals are cooked in house.)
- Team has a quick meeting to discuss the day, and gets the meal and space ready for youth.
- Youth arrive at 11:30am, where they are checked in or registered at our front desk.
- Meals are served as youth arrive.
- Youth either take a meal to go, or stay if time and regulations permit.
- Once all youth have left, the team has a quick debrief meeting, then clean up for the next program to start.
