The Canadian Cancer Society CIBC Run for the Cure is a 5k or 1k walk or run. It is a volunteer-led event and the largest breast cancer fundraiser in Canada.

This year’s event will be taking place on Sunday, October 4, 2026.

Volunteer Duties

As the volunteer, Volunteer Engagement Lead, you will be responsible for:

  • Working alongside all committee leads determining volunteer requirements for event day.
  • Supporting Volunteer Recruitment Coordinator (if applicable) to determine potential ways to recruit event day volunteers.
  • Leading or working in collaboration with Volunteer Recruitment Coordinator (if applicable) to actively promote the event day volunteer needs within your community.
  • Managing all event volunteers using volunteer portal including confirming role fill rate, confirming volunteers to their registered shift, communicating their confirmed details via email.
  • Managing volunteer check-in for set-up and event day.
  • Overseeing all event day volunteers on event day.
  • Access to a computer is required.

18 years old or above

  • The ideal candidate for this volunteer role has a positive attitude, communication and interpersonal skills, and a strong sense of self-motivation and time management

Schedule

  • This is a 6-month commitment (May through October).
  • Attending local committee meetings (generally bi-weekly to monthly).
  • Independent role work/responsibilities (approx. 6-8 hours per month with increased workload August & September).
  • Must be available over the event weekend (Saturday, October 3 & Sunday, October 4, 2026)
