Volunteer Driver
Suitable for Seniors
Volunteer Drivers provide support to our Operations Team by assisting with smaller pickups and/or deliveries using their own vehicles and assisting our paid staff with additional errands and warehouse activities. As representatives of the food bank off-site, Volunteer Drivers will interact with donors and suppliers on our behalf and should be capable of heavy lifting and working in fast-paced and ever-changing environments.
Drivers interested in supporting Hamper Deliveries to food bank families will be subject to additional screening requirements (not required for all Volunteer Drivers).
Volunteer Duties
- Support Operations Team with driving duties and other tasks coordinated by Operations Manager or Staff Team members.
- Provide your own vehicle, suitable for pickups and deliveries of food and non-food product.
- Pickup, weigh and record food and nonfood donations.
- Move perishable and nonperishable donations to proper storage after recording weights.
- Deliver Food Share and other deliveries to assigned locations.
- General warehouse work as time allows.
- Wear IFB Volunteer identification while representing IFB off-site.
- As a representative of IFB during volunteer shifts, act in a courteous and respectful manner.
- Be punctual and dependable in picking up/dropping off at scheduled times.
- Maintain confidentiality of donors, clients, volunteers and program participants.
- Log volunteer hours and mileage.
- Notify IFB of absences in a timely manner.
Age Requirements
Must be 18 years old or above
Other Requirements
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License (GDL not accepted), Current Insurance and Vehicle Registration
- Access to a vehicle that is roadworthy, reliable and suitable for pickup/delivery needs
- Must be in satisfactory health condition to ensure safe driving (vision, hearing, perception, reflexes, medications, etc.)
- Experience with warehouse equipment is not required but an asset (pallet jacks, balers)
- Ability to perform heavy lifting activities on a regular basis
- Basic computer skills
Schedule
- Morning shift (8am-12pm)
- Afternoon shift (1pm-4pm)
- Weekend or after hour shifts will be determined as needed.
- Interfaith Food Bank has a 2 shifts per week maximum.
- Willing to make long-term (at least 4-month commitment ideal).

Volunteer Advocates support the Service & Care Team by working with the Client Advocacy Coordinator to provide information, referrals and community connections to help address the underlying issues that are placing individuals in need of food bank supports. Duties include providing referrals, assisting clients with applications, appointments and systems navigation, and general administrative duties to maintain client files. Advocacy roles require an understanding of local community resources, a familiarity with vulnerable populations with complex issues, and a commitment to providing services with upmost dignity.
General Warehouse Volunteers support the Operations Team with the receipt, storage and preparation of food and non-food products to facilitate food bank programs and services. Duties include tasks such as sorting, repackaging, hamper building and bundling, in addition to maintaining general warehouse organization and cleanliness. These tasks are done safely and effectively through detailed processes while adhering to food safety guidelines.
The Reception Volunteer serves as the first point of contact for visitors at Administration and Donations and all callers at Interfaith Food Bank. This role involves receiving and processing donations, greeting visitors, answering phone calls, assisting with inquiries, and supporting administrative tasks to ensure smooth front desk operations.
