Men’s and Women’s Conversation Circle Partner

Help create a more welcoming and inclusive city by volunteering as a Conversation Circle Partner and engage with newcomers to Canada.

Help newcomers adjust to life in Canada by practicing basic conversational English needed to participate in community life, and by socializing and sharing information about resources, community, and culture.

Volunteer Duties

  • Help by:
    • Offering social support.
    • Promoting social inclusion and alleviating isolation and loneliness.
    • Supporting informal language learning by practicing conversation in English.
    • Practicing with language that is useful for daily activities.
    • Promoting cross-cultural interactions by talking and learning about each other’s traditions and customs.
    • Exchanging ideas, information, and resources.
  • Promote community inclusion by offering social connection and the chance to practice conversational English.

  • Women’s Conversation Circle – Fridays (3pm-5pm)
  • Men’s Conversation Circle – Saturdays (10am-12pm)

Volunteers receive information and orientation regarding working with newcomers to Canada, as well as ongoing training opportunities and support from the Community Connections Volunteer Programs team.

Individuals or Family match with newcomers to Canada with a focus on stay-at-home caregivers and young children (intake completed online).

Help create a welcoming and inclusive city by volunteering as a community connector with individuals or families who are new to Canada.

Volunteers are matched with a newcomer individual or family. Match meetings can be at home or in the community.

Volunteers are supported by a Community Connections Settlement Practitioner and will have access to resources to share with their matches.
