Community Connector for Individuals or Family with Focus on Language and Literacy
Individual or family match with newcomers to Canada with a focus on language and literacy (intake completed online).
Help create a more inclusive city by volunteering as a community connector with individuals or families who are new to Canada.
Volunteers receive information and orientation regarding working with newcomers to Canada, as well as ongoing training opportunities and support from the Community Connections Volunteer Programs team.
Volunteer Duties
- Assist newcomers to Canada integrate into the Lethbridge community.
- Volunteers help newcomers adjust to life in Canada through conversation, activities, and socializing.
- Volunteers help by:
- Offering social support and promoting social inclusion.
- Practicing skills that help with daily activities.
- Supporting informal language learning by practicing conversation in English.
- Introducing their matches to people and places in the community.
- Promoting cross-cultural interactions by talking and learning about each other’s traditions.
- Exchanging ideas, information, and resources.
- Support individuals and families as they learn English through school and language training programs.
- Promote well-being by offering social connection, homework help, the chance to practice conversational English, as well as access language support resources in the community.
