This opportunity is available as either a regular volunteer position or an unpaid internship. Please refer to the Schedule section below to choose a commitment.

The unpaid internship position provides you with practical skills and hands-on experience in a professional office setting. If you are new to Canada, this is an excellent opportunity for you to gain office experience, particularly in a Canadian cultural context.

Volunteer Duties

  • Assists with content creation for a wide array of BIPOC Foundation related projects and programs.
  • Assists in the set-up and coverage of local events and feature shoots of success stories, leadership, and other BIPOC Foundation interactivity.
  • With the media team, this position assists in curating ideas that allow for the creation and development of new and innovative content that aids in communicating the organization’s visions across platforms.
  • Reporting to the Volunteer Program Lead and Operations Lead, the Content Specialist will conduct general tasks such as:
    • Meeting with the creative, marketing, and design teams to ideate and define content goals.
    • Researching content and consumer trends to ensure that content is relevant and appealing.
    • Assisting with the development of content strategies to effectively reach the desired target audience and marketing goals.
    • Creating content for a variety of platforms including blogs, websites, and social media.
    • Proofreading and editing content before moving it forward in process for publishing approval.
    • Ensuring that SEO and SMO strategies are effectively implemented.
    • Assisting with the upkeep of content calendars and ensuring that the content remains consistent across all platforms as required.
    • Coordinating with the marketing, design, and writing teams to ensure the timely delivery of projects, programs, and assignments.
    • Tracking consumer and content analytics and generating reports and presentations.
    • Keeping up to date with content trends, consumer preferences, and advancements in technology.
    • Assisting in development of SOP for content creation and distribution.
    • Leading interviews, and physical engagement with potential, and current BIPOC clients, at fairs, events, etc.
    • Carrying out miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Age Requirements

18 years old or above

Other Requirements

  • A portfolio of published work.
  • Familiarity with content management systems such as WordPress, Drupal, and Joomla.
  • Good knowledge of content and layout design tools such as Adobe InCopy and InDesign.
  • Excellent computer skills with MS Office and Google Suite.
  • Good knowledge of various content platforms such as social media, blogs, and print media.
  • Strong understanding of content practices such as SEO, SMO, and PPC and ability to analyze.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to keep abreast of content and consumer trends and advancements in technology.

Schedule

  • Regular Volunteers (12–16 hrs/week).
  • Unpaid Interns (6–8 months, 20 hrs/week).
