Green Acres Foundation

Green Acres Foundation provides affordable housing and quality services responsive to the needs of clients.

Volunteering at Green Acres Foundation offers opportunities to gain new skills, engage with others and share your passion and interests. We welcome individuals, groups, families and friends who want to share their smiles, ideas, encouragement, enthusiasm, and energy.

We offer a variety of structured opportunities but we are always looking to create and develop new programming. If you have a hobby, skill or project you are passionate about, we would love to hear from you!

Green Acres’ annual online resident survey is coming up. As this may prevent some challenges to our residents, we are hoping to get some volunteers to assist our residents in filling out this form.

There are multiple locations for this opportunity. Please see Schedule below.

Green Acres purchased some tandem electric assisted bikes (tricycles actually) and are looking for volunteers interested in peddling our residents around. This would be weather dependent and involves all the Lethbridge lodges.

There is one bike shared at Blue Sky Lodge and Golden Acres Lodge on the 16 Ave N, one bike shared at Black Rock Terrace and Pemmican Lodge on 5 Ave S, and one bike shared between Garden View Lodge, Heritage Lodge (both downtown) and Alberta Rose Lodge on 32 St S (by Rona).

Volunteers could volunteer at a lodge in their neighbourhood or at multiple lodges across the city. We really don’t know at this time if there will be specific routes to follow.

Helmet is provided, but if the volunteer has their own helmet, they can use it.

A bit of training will be required as there are settings controlled by the driver of the bike for the resident side as the residents can peddle at their own space to exercise their legs (this setting is not helping to propel the bike), peddle and provide assistance to keep the bike moving, or not peddle at all. The driver’s side also controls how much or how little peddling the driver wants to do (how much electronic assist they want) and the braking.

The main point of these e-bikes is to get the residents out for some fresh air, get a little exercise if they choose, and most importantly, to enjoy conversation or reminiscing with the driver of the bike so the resident gets both physical and mental stimulation.
