The Big Cook – Freezer Meal Cooks
The Big Cook is a communal meal preparation event where all participants, staff, and volunteers come together to create and freeze months worth of meals for the resident participants in our Hestia Homes Program.
Hestia homes is a program operated by the YWCA Lethbridge & District that supports youth 17-24 who are homeless or at imminent risk of becoming homeless, teaching them essential skills on their development journey to independent living.
All ingredients and supplies are provided on-site. Volunteers need to bring a sense of creativity and fun, an ability to work together, and a heart for supporting vulnerable youth. An apron or smock, comfortable clothes and shoes, and a hair tie-back (if applicable) are also suggested.
Volunteer Duties
- Cook healthy and wholesome meals for others.
- Prepare and package freezer meals from “The Big Cook” recipe book, pre-chosen recipes.
- Cleaning and tidying-up duties both during and after the Cook.

- Under 16 must be accompanied by an adult
Schedule
January 8, 2025 (9am-2pm)
- This is a semi-annual event, and each opportunity is a one-time commitment.
