Reading Tent Volunteers
United for Literacy is a Canadian national, non-profit literacy organization. We believe literacy is a human right and want to support learners in their journey to improve their reading and writing skills! During the school year, our organization works with students at various schools around Lethbridge and area to assist with reading. When school is out, we spend our summers visiting summer camps, local libraries, and youth events around Southern Alberta.
During these visits, we bring literacy-themed games, activities, crafts.
Volunteer Duties
Volunteers are needed to play games, read stories aloud, and have lots of free craft and play time!
Age Requirements
Must be 14 years or above
Other Requirements
- Open to joining the program at various times and locations throughout the summer (weekly or periodic drop-ins)
- Confident around children of all ages
- Comfortable assisting with crafts, board games, and outdoor activities
- Able to assist in the heat (indoor spaces or shade is not always available)
- Enthusiastic, flexible, and creative
Schedule
This is an opportunity for people looking for flexible hours and who like to spend time with children and youth. These are short, 2-3 hour timeframes for volunteers who can join weekly or who can attend a couple of events over the summer.
