Program Assistant Volunteer

Program Assistants will provide residents with the opportunity to engage in programs that provide social interaction, mental stimulation, physical activity and inclusion in the community. Volunteers will work closely with residents to provide them with the freedom to participate in a non-threatening activity that contributes to overall quality of life and well-being.

Volunteer Duties

As a Program Assistant, you will provide support to Recreation Staff for various games, activities and events with set-up, preparation, engaging with staff and residents during activities and with clean up and take-down. Games, activities and events are not limited to but can include:

  • Bocce Ball
  • Bowling
  • Balloon Badminton
  • Bingo
  • Baking
  • Birthday Parties
  • Meal Clubs

    Age Requirements

    Minimum age 16 - 18 years old

    Other Requirements

    Volunteers in this role should have:

    • Working knowledge of the English Language.
    • Excellent people skills.
    • Ability to work independently or with a support worker.
    • Willingness and ability to take direction from staff.
    • Sensitivity to the needs and challenges of the residents.

      Schedule

      Various times are available weekly but typically:

      • 9:30am–11:30am
      • 1pm–4pm
      • 5:30pm–7:30

      The Pet Therapy Program is designed to provide residents with the opportunity to engage in an activity that provides social as well as sensory stimulation.  Volunteers will work closely with the resident to provide them the freedom to participate in a non-threatening familiar activity that allows for expressions such as caring and nurturing.

      In an atmosphere of relaxation and pampering, residents will have the opportunity to socialize with nail care providers on a one to one basis, while having their fingernails manicured and polished.  This will improve self-esteem, provide sensory stimulation, socialization, increased motivation and enjoyment.

      Tuck Shop is our in-facility “store” where snacks, candy,  personal care items, crafts etc., are sold every Friday.
