Individualized Support and Advocacy Volunteer
Inclusion Lethbridge provides assistance and support to children and adults in Lethbridge and Southwestern Alberta who have disabilities, and provides assistance to their families and allies with the goal of creating a more inclusive community, where people’s rights are respected and people are valued.
Individualized Support and Advocacy Volunteers assist Inclusion Lethbridge staff to provide support and advocacy to people with disabilities and their families. We support people to be fully included in their communities, with all the rights, benefits and responsibilities of citizenship, and to be treated with dignity and respect.
Volunteer Duties
- Attend meetings with individuals or family members
- Research information as needed
- Contact other organizations or service providers as needed
- Assist with completion of documentation
- Maintain confidentiality
- Input notes into database
- Input volunteer hours
- Attend training as requested
Age Requirements
Must be 18 years old and above
Other Requirements
- Lived experience as a person with a difference/disability or a close support person/family member
- Personal experience with advocacy and system navigation
- Excellent interpersonal Skills
- Strong Communication Skills
- Strong reading comprehension, clear handwriting/printing
- Ability to listen and refrain from advising
- Walk beside, not lead
- Understand that the beliefs and values of people we assist will guide the process
- Clear understanding of appropriate rapport building
- Full commitment to human rights
- Drivers License and access to a car is a benefit
- Good understanding of local and regional social/community resources is a benefit
Schedule
Time commitment is based on volunteer availability.
Average direct contact time commitment per support situation is 1 – 3 hours. Follow up, research and back ground work may also be required.
Availability for weekdays, evenings or weekend would be ideal – following Inclusion Lethbridge Health and Safety policies and procedures.

Inclusion Lethbridge Association operates with a hybrid governance and advocacy Board.
Board Members share responsibility for the governance, strategic direction and stewardship of the Association while also taking an active role in advancing its mission through advocacy, community engagement and organizational initiatives.
This is an active working Board position. Attendance at Board meetings is an important part of the role, but Board service extends beyond meetings. Members are expected to contribute their time, skills, perspectives and effort throughout the year and to take responsibility for agreed-upon work.
The Board works collectively to ensure Inclusion Lethbridge Association remains mission-driven, accountable, financially responsible, sustainable and responsive to the priorities of people with developmental disabilities and their families.
Inclusion Lethbridge volunteers are needed to fill 5-hour shifts in a variety of positions.
Few positions require experience or training, however, many are not in need of prior experience. Bingos require volunteers to be good at counting cash, walking around and interacting with players.
