Chairperson Volunteer

Looking for a dedicated volunteer who has experience on a board and fundraising to aid in the mission to provide client centred life skills programming in southern Alberta.

Volunteer Duties

  • The Chairperson shall preside at all membership meetings, including annual general meeting, special meetings of the general membership, monthly board meetings, and executive meetings
  • The Chairperson shall call meetings of the board and the executive committee
  • The Chairperson shall possess and apply leadership qualities that support and defend the business of the Society
  • The Chairperson shall guide the activities of the Board of Directors leading to the establishment and ongoing refinement of the Society’s operational policies and strategic planning process
  • The Chairperson shall take specific direction from the Board of Directors
  • The Chairperson shall appoint all committees, standing or ad-hoc
  • The Chairperson shall be an ex-officio member of all committees struck by the Board of Directors
  • The Chairperson shall lobby and liaise on behalf of the Society with elected and unelected government officials, regional and community-based non-government organizations, and the public at large
  • The Chairperson shall be an official spokesperson and representative for the Society, unless directed otherwise by the Board of Directors
  • The Chairperson shall communicate regularly with the Executive Director of the Society regarding day-to-day business of the Society
  • The Chairperson shall see all books, reports, and certificates required by law are properly kept or filed
  • The Chairperson must be one of the officers who sign the cheques or drafts for the Society
  • The Chairperson shall have such powers as may be reasonably construed as belonging to the chief executive of any organization
  • The Chairperson shall ensure that structures and procedures are in place for securing the resources required by the Society. Depending upon the Society, this may require the Chairperson to play a leadership role in fundraising campaigns

Age Requirements

18 years old or above

Other Requirements

  • Should have experience as a board member
  • Experience with fundraising preferred
  • Two year commitment

Schedule

  • Monthly meetings held every Tuesday evenings
  • 10- 15 hours monthly
